YWF Rant 14 06 07 Global Dimming

In recent years we’ve become aware of something else, global dimming. We’ve all heard about global warming and the effect it’s having on the planet by slowly breaking down the protective upper atmosphere that protects us from the suns rays.

Global dimming is basically where polution such as con trails from jet aircraft are actually forming a cloud in the upper atmosphere that actually helps to reflect the harmful rays of the sun. This global dimming theory was actually proven during the 3 days after 9/11 in the USA when all commercial aircraft were grounded. The sky was actually able to clear of con trail polution (global dimming) and the temperature range for those 3 days went up by 1 degree, very alarming in earth terms.

So here’s an idea to possibly get the protection of global dimming with out so much polution. In the upper atmosphere there is already a lot of junk floating around from all those space flights, possibly in the thousands. So why not put a white reflective substance up there to help protect the earth from droughts and excessive global warming? We already have that substance in abundance on earth and we can’t recycle it. It’s light and white which is great! Light so it will require less energy to put it into space. White so it reflects the suns rays.

I’m talking about polystyrene! We use it for all kinds of packaging around the world! To get the required global dimming effect to reduce global warming simply grind or break it down into a dust or small pellets, and slowly but steadily dump it in the upper atmosphere to protect the whole planet!

We must not overdo it or we could create another ice age so a slow, steady build up of the stuff to get the required level of global dimming. Maybe we could put more over drought hit areas such as Africa. Would the earth’s weather system create natural water based cloud’s that would bring much need water and life to these areas?

Maybe we could even use high altitude balloons to transport the polystyrene at least most of the way to the upper atmosphere. Maybe we could even use high altitude balloons to hold a launch pad up at a high altitude and launch the polystyrene into the upper atmosphere in a more cost effective way to get the required global dimming effect.

I’m not a scientist but I’m blogging this anyway incase it at least sparks an idea with scientists who monitor global dimming. In an evermore complicated world I like to try to keep things relativley simple as quite often the simplest solution is often the best! This way of thinking is part of the reason that helped me imagine YWFAID and start making it a reality!
